Mick earned a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling at The University of Great Falls. Simultaneously, he pursued credentials for a License in Addiction Counseling. Understanding the all-too-common relationship between mental health issues and various aspects of addiction is imperative to helping people in our society. In addition, the experience of trauma in this human life is highly probable. Therefore, Mick is also certified in E.M.D.R. Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). He has applied all of these techniques to various age groups and demographic populations.

Mick has always held a passion for international travel. In 2002, he formed an international education program named Peru Alive, outside of Cusco, Peru. After hosting many American students and travelers to the Andes, he started branching out into other countries across the globe. Experiencing a foreign culture is much like counseling; taking a step out of our familiar world to realize there are many ways to live a life. In this exploration, people find better, happier approaches to the challenges they face.

In Montana, winter presents some of the greatest outdoor activities. Mick’s cold weather interests are skiing, snow camping, snowmobiling, and splitting firewood. Technically, fire wood is not a recreational activity but there is something spiritual between a man and his chainsaw.

Clinical Therapy

Clinical Therapy is the process of diagnosing and treating various mood disorders commonly occurring in western society. Depression and Anxiety account for the majority of people in "counseling". Each clinician has their own individual style but the vast majority of therapists practice some variation of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT. It can be combined with medication management or other effective treatments approaches like Mindfulness, Motivational Enhancement, Dialectic Behavioral, Psycho-dynamic, and Brief Therapy.

Chemical Dependency Assessments

Chemical Dependency Assessments provide insight into the severity and progression of a substance abuse disorder. They provide recommendations for the appropriate level of care ie; groups and rehabs, a client may need to best treat the issue. At times, court services, youth probation, employee assistance programs, family services, and individual family members require or refer the assessment.

Chemical Dependency Treatment

Chemical Dependency Treatment in and out-patient clinical setting is the lowest level of care for alcohol and substance abuse disorders. Visiting a CD Counselor is commonly the first step an individual will take to assess and treat the dependency prior to more severe consequences associated with more severe and chronic cases. In addition, the out patient setting can be utilized for individuals transitioning down from higher levels of care or maintaining on-going treatment.

EMDR

Eye Motion Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is most commonly associated with treatment for traumatic life experiences and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. A very simplistic explanation of EMDR is the process of separating the intense emotion associated with a traumatic memory. This allows the client to recall and heal from the event(s) without highly intense and disruptive emotions creating difficulty with life functioning. EMDR has also be proven to help with depression, anxiety disorders, pain management, and substance abuse disorders.
